Metrics
Metrics are the core building blocks of OnlyMetrix. Every query, analysis, and insight is built on top of your metric catalog.
Metric Store
The Metric Store shows all metrics in your workspace. Each metric card displays:
- Name and description
- Tags (e.g., revenue, customers, orders)
- Source — how it was created (authored, suggested, imported)
- Tier — Core, Standard, or Foundation
Metric tiers
| Tier | Purpose | Visibility |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Business-critical KPIs | Always visible, prioritized in search |
| Standard | Regular operational metrics | Visible by default |
| Foundation | Supporting/derived metrics | Hidden unless you choose "All" |
Creating metrics
New Metric (manual)
Click New Metric and provide:
- SQL query that returns your metric
- Name and description
- Tags for organization
Import from dbt / LookML
Click Import dbt / LookML to bring in metrics from your existing semantic layer.
Auto-suggestions
When you connect a datasource, OnlyMetrix scans your schema and suggests metrics. Review them in the Suggestions tab.
Test Query
Every metric card has a Test Query link — click it to run the metric and see results immediately.
Compiler status
The Compiler tab shows which metrics have been compiled into OnlyMetrix's internal representation (IR). Compiled metrics support advanced features like dimension breakdown, time granularity, and all 22 analysis primitives.
